Jean-Luc Kirmann

Jean-Luc Kirmann is Director of Global Product Management E-Mobility at NORMA Group, a global marketand technology leader in engineered joining technology solutions. He has around 30 years’ extensive experience and in-depth knowledge in the automotive industry. He held different management positions in engineering and business development at international players and automotive tiers in Europe and China before joining NORMA Group in 2007.

Which customer or market demands were the biggest drivers of your company’s growth during the past three years?

NORMA Group is a global market and technology leader in fluid handling and connecting technologies. As such, NORMA Group addresses global megatrends that affect us all: climate change and scarcity of resources. Our product solutions and complete systems help our customers efficiently reduce emissions via weight and leakage reductions; and we also contribute to the safety of the vehicles. NORMA Group has been expanding its long-standing expertise and portfolio in water management solutions as well as in e-mobility applications. Our company works with our clients on innovations to face the challenges of stricter emissions standards in the future.

Do you anticipate that those demands will continue to be your biggest growth drivers for the next three years, or are you anticipating new trends?

We always ask ourselves what customers need from our products and solutions – today and in the future. This is why we generate ideas, develop new products and create added value for our customers. Within development partnerships, we create innovative, tailor-made solutions together with our customers. We expect that global megatrends will continue to pose challenges that we will transform into business opportunities. This includes, for example, expanding our activities in high-performance thermal management systems for hybrid and fully electric vehicles – both for individual mobility as well as for commercial vehicles.

What new trends do you anticipate and what market demands do you see evolving/changing over the next five years?

Our environment is volatile and characterised by new trends, technologies and markets; thus, changes are profound. NORMA Group prepares systematically for these changes and we have proved that we can gain momentum exactly by making use of those developments. We already benefit today from hybrid drives as a bridge technology of battery-powered e-mobility. Another evolving market for us is water management.

NORMA Group is well equipped for the alternative drives. To ensure this in the future, we will continue to expand our technology leadership in high-quality joining and fluid-handling technology, and will closely monitor developments, such as in the areas of hydrogen vehicles as well as the next generations of batteries. We are constantly striving to maximise systems performance and weight reduction and help our customers reach emission reduction goals.

What is your company’s approach to strategic partnerships or joint ventures, and what kinds of partnerships are you most open to exploring?

We have always maintained development partnerships with different industries, especially with well-recognised car makers, and we will continue to evaluate new partnerships.

What products will you be featuring at the show this year and what are you expecting?

NORMA Group will exhibit a wide range of battery cooling solutions, quick connectors and fluid-handling systems specifically designed to meet customer requirements regarding flexibility, safety, weight reduction and volume reduction as well as other requirements.

The Battery Show offers great opportunities to get an insight into trends and to learn more about the market needs of new players in the industry. I expect inspiring exchanges and networking possibilities.

Please tell us about your current role. What are your key focus areas and responsibilities?

As the Director of Global Product Management E-Mobility, I am globally supporting and coordinating all the teams and functions of NORMA Group in order to successfully and strategically drive the emerging e-mobility market.
