Keeping the EV world connected

TTI Europe is the region’s largest distributor of connector, e-mech, passive and discrete technologies and, as a key partner to many innovators in the field, will feature prominently at The Battery Show Europe 2019. Within its portfolio of around 60 suppliers, TTI works closely with major companies such as TE Connectivity, Aptiv, Amphenol, Molex, Vishay, TDK, Murata and AVX to bring the latest component solutions to today’s EV market.

Visitors will be able to pick up on new high-voltage solutions such as connector systems for electrical vehicle charging; high-voltage relays and fuses for switching applications; storage capacitors for battery applications and power resistors; and inductors and sensors for battery management systems.

A recent example of addressing industry demand is TTI’s addition of the first-ever AEC-Q101 qualified, phototransistor optocoupler provided by Vishay. This newly-launched device, the VOMA617A, combines a high CTR of 50% to 600% with low 5mA forward current. Provided in a compact SOP-4 package, the new device gives the major advantage of a 30% saving on PCB real-estate when compared to a DIP-4 package.

The series offers a GaAlAs infrared emitting diode, which is optically coupled to a silicon planar phototransistor detector. The coupling devices are intended for signal transmission between two electrically separated circuits, with low coupling capacitance. Ideal applications are in system control in automotive applications, including EVs and hybrid electric vehicles; electric bicycles and electric motorbikes; signal transmission with galvanic and noise isolation; battery management systems and on-board chargers; switch-mode power supplies; 48V board net applications; as well as industrial applications with high-reliability requirements.

A Berkshire Hathaway company, globally TTI maintains 2,000,000ft3 (around 57,000m3) of dedicated warehouse space containing over 850,000 component part numbers.

TTI is also selectively adding franchises to its portfolio to expand its offering of connector, switch, sensor and power supply design solutions to the market. Having enjoyed a successful show in 2018, TTI says it is looking forward to attending next year’s show in Stuttgart.
